Amber Confetti Vase by Loretta Eby, 1983, Studio Glass

This vintage studio art glass vase by Loretta Eby is a striking example of 1980s American glassmaking. Hand-blown and signed by the artist, the 6-inch vase is finished in a glossy amber-yellow tone, accented with a lively confetti pattern that gives it both depth and movement. Compact in form yet visually bold, it captures the spirit of the era’s studio glass movement while showcasing Eby’s craftsmanship and attention to detail. The signature and date (“1983”) place it firmly within her early body of work, predating the founding of her own glass studio in 1985.

Loretta Eby received her B.F.A. in glass, with minors in printmaking and drawing, from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1981. She went on to continue her education at the Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Pilchuck School of Glass, three of the most important training grounds for the American studio craft movement. Since college, her emphasis has been on hot glass, working in and managing several studios before establishing her own. This vase represents not just a decorative piece, but an important link to the trajectory of an artist who has devoted her life to glassmaking.
