Art Deco Bakelite and Teak Footed Candlesticks by William Archibald Weldon, 1936, Chase Brass & Copper

$140.00

Rare group of Art Deco footed candlesticks designed in 1936 by William Archibald Weldon (1900–1955) for the Chase Brass & Copper Company. Produced for only one year, these pieces are among the most sought-after of Chase’s specialty line. Each measures 1 ½ inches high by 3 ½ inches in diameter, with copper forms accented by geometric Deco details. One pair features a ribbed Bakelite base, while the second uses teak, offering two variations of the same streamlined design. Increasingly scarce examples of classic Chase 1930s production.

Weldon was the Director of Design for Chase during the 1930s and also worked with Revere Copper and Brass. He is celebrated for his iconic barware designs such as the Empire and Zephyr cocktail shakers, which blended chrome-plated brass with Bakelite accents and embodied the machine-age aesthetic.

Chase Brass & Copper Company, founded in 1876 in Waterbury, Connecticut, is best remembered by collectors for its Art Deco household line produced between 1930 and 1942. Designed by leading figures including Russel Wright, Rockwell Kent, Walter Von Nessen, and Weldon himself, the line was signed with the centaur-and-bow logo and discontinued when the company shifted to wartime production. With a short 12-year run, these Chase specialty items remain highly collectible and emblematic of American Art Deco design.
