Licensed brass replica of Gaston Lachaise’s Bee, produced by Alva Studios (Alva Museum Replicas) in the 1970s for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Cast in solid mirror polished brass and mounted on a polished marble plinth, the piece highlights the geometric Art Deco stylization typical of Lachaise, where natural form is abstracted into bold, streamlined contours. Stamped under one wing “G. LACHAISE” and “ALVA MUSEUM REPLICAS.” 5.25″ H × 5″ W × 2.5″ D. Great condition
Gaston Lachaise (1882–1935), a French-born American sculptor, was central to early 20th-century modernism. Known for monumental works, he merged classical influences with modern abstraction. The original Bee, in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s collection, reflects his interest in reducing organic forms to their most powerful, stylized essence. Most people will recognize Lachaise’s most famous sculpture, Standing Woman (1932), a monumental nude permanently installed in the garden of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
