Ruth Gerth, a pioneering industrial designer, was instrumental in shaping Chase’s identity during the company’s entry into the consumer goods market. Trained at the Art Institute of Chicago, she became the first woman president of the Artists Guild and counted Chase among her most prominent clients. Working alongside William Gerth and other modernist designers such as Russel Wright, Rockwell Kent, and Walter von Nessen, she helped establish Chase as a leader in American Art Deco metalwork.
Many Chase designs, including pieces by the Gerths, are now held in museum collections such as the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, underscoring their historical and aesthetic importance. m
